Our Mission

Aquatopia is a site to help set up and maintain a healthy aquarium. From seeing fish being mistreated, Aquatopia is here to educate people about aquatic animals, and how to keep them healthy and happy.

Who We Are

Jorge has been keeping fish since he was 10 years old. From the start he was very successful and bound to be very successful in keeping fish. He has breed many fish successfully and has even made breeding fish a job. His collection of books and magazines is outstanding and can easily explain why he is so well educated in fish keeping. He has taken, and aced, classes for aquatic biological studies, and has snorkeled off the coast of the Florida Keys.

Our History

Aquatopia started out as a small site in June of 1998, formally called Freshwater Aquariums. It only had a small amount of information, minor things like how to set up a freshwater aquarium and some maintenance tips. It was hosted by Angelfire and had no advertisement, and thus, not many visitors. The only way to hear about it was through word of mouth. Even though it wasn't too popular, it started to grow. In late November of 1998, Freshwater Aquariums started the change to Tropical Freshwater Aquariums.

On February 17, 1999, Freshwater Aquariums had officially become Tropical Freshwater Aquariums. TFA was strong for a few months, but its success was short lived. It needed more. Fish profiles were then added, and there were a big hit. Along with advertisements and more and more features, TFA was again on its feet and going strong. But soon it became obvious that there wasn't enough. The competition was too strong for TFA. At the end off 2000, it was decided that TFA only had two choices, shut down, or go into overdrive. What happened next surprised everyone in the TFA staff.

Everyone knew TFA was in trouble, but what could be done to save it? Saltwater info. It was wanted, needed, and the only option. But a site called Tropical Freshwater Aquariums would not make sense to have saltwater information. So the site needed a new name. This was the beginning of Aquatopia.

For 3 and a half months, Aquatopia was being created, and on April 30th, 2001, Aquatopia was born. Through tremendous advertisement and hard work, Aquatopia was a great success, greater than Freshwater and TFA combined. Aquatopia only got better through time. A year passed and Aquatopia was running strong. But in mid August of 2002, the worst thing to happen to this site happened. Computer errors lead to all of Aquatopia being erased, and with no backup, everything was lost.

Now, Aquatopia is coming back, and will be better than ever, and nothing will hold us back.
