Trickle filters are the best kinds of biological filters. They work by pulling water from the aquarium and pouring onto a media where it drips, or trickles, down through plastic balls that have great surface area. "Good guy" bacteria massively colonizes on these balls. That water then reaches the sump and goes through more media and then pumped back into the aquarium. This is a mechanical, chemical, and biological filter. |
