Currently the award program is being created, but the criteria
is below if you think that your site can win an award, you can come back later
and apply.
The awards are awarded on a point based system. I will go to
your site and review your site and grade your site. I assign points to each
area, then total the points then find the percent compared to the total possible
amount of points. Because it is unfair to grade site based on age of site,
amount of visitors, and things like that, I will count those as extra credit.
Any sites must follow these rules or will be automatically
disqualified.

NO pornography. This includes any pictures including, text
describing, or sound including.

NO direct links to pornography.

NO illegal activity. If it is illegal anywhere, I don't want
it.

Must be family friendly. I must be able to show this to my
grandmother, and my children.

Must NOT have any hatred or discrimination toward race, religion,
government, nationality, etc.
Content = 180 Total Points
Correct Content = 60 Points Max
I don't like sites that have wrong information on them. Now I
know that there are difference of opinions on many things, but I don't want to
give an award to a site that tells me a fish is a winged animal, covered in
feathers, has a beak, lives in trees, and chips. For your information, I WILL do
some research on information I do not know about. If your web site is correct
and tells the truth, you will have no problem getting a 60 out of 60. You
automatically get 60 points, but I subtract a point for things that are slightly
wrong, two points for things that are wrong, and 10 points for things that are
so wrong that they should never have been typed.
Amount of Content = 40 Points Max
I will judge this on the amount of content your site has compared
to how much it could have. If your subject is space in general, and you only
have 2 pages of information, I will give you a very low score. But if you have a
site about a deep-sea creature that was just discovered and there is very little
information about it, then you can have only a few pages. This is scored on a
scale of 1 to 40 on how I feel you did on this part.
Original Work = 40 Points Max
I like when I go to a website and they have their own
work. If I find things that look like they have been copied, but changed a
little, I will subtract a point or two, depending on how serious it is. Now I
know that some information is impossible to put down, without it looking exactly
like something else. Things like these will be ignored and will not count
against you. Copying work is illegal, and not supported by Aquatopia. If I find
something that is copied, I will take off all 40 points.
Spelling and Grammar = 30 Points Max
Spelling and grammar are very important to me. I understand
that a few errors can happen here or there, and the larger the site, the more
chances that you are going to have errors. For the most part, I can tell the
different between a typo, and a spelling error. If I find a word misspelled, I
will look throughout the rest of the site for the same word, if it is misspelled
the same way, I count that as a misspelling, but if I find it correctly spelled
right somewhere else, I will count it as a typo. I will take off a point for
every 5 typos, and two points for every misspelling. Ease of Reading =10 Points Max
I don't like going to sites that have tiny text sizes or
impossible to read fonts. I also don't like it when the color of the text is
similar to the background and hard to see, yellow
text on a white background for example. This is a scale of 1 to10 o how easy
your text is to read. This is an easy 10 points. Site Design
= 120 Total Points
Navigation = 40 Points Max
I like sites that have information that is easy to find.
I do not want to have to go to the site map to find what I want. If your
Information is easy to come to, then you will have no problem getting 40 points.
This is grade on a scale of 1 to 40. Pictures = 40 Points Max
I like to see pictures on sites. I also like it when the
pictures work. Are your pictures authentic? If I find that you took pictures
from another site, I will take off all 40 points. This is graded on a scale of 1
to 40. Design = 20 Points Max
I like it when sites have a nice design. I also like when
the site's design matches the theme. I don't want sites called "Technology
of the 21 Century" to have water theme or an old western theme. This is
graded on a scale of 1 to 20. Links = 10 Points Max
I don't like it when I click on a link and it doesn't
work. Now I understand that links to other web sites might not work because that
web site doesn't exist. But when links to other pages in your site don't work, I
get mad. You automatically get 10 points, and I will subtract a point for every
link that doesn't work within your site. Load Time = 10 Points Max
I don't like waiting for sites to load. I have a
broadband connection, so you shouldn't have to worry about this, but if I more
than 30 seconds for a page to load, I will subtract a point. If I have to wait
more than 30 seconds for the main page to load, I will subtract 6 points.
Extra Credit:
Other Languages
If your site comes in multiple languages I will give it
extra credit. It must at least have English, and any other language will count
as extra. 5 points for 1 extra language, 12 points for two extra languages, 20
points if in 3 or more extra languages. Visitors
Because it shows that you get a lot of customers, I will
give extra credit to those who have a lot of hits. For ever 100,000 (one hundred
thousand) hits, I will give you 2 extra credit points. If you have a guestbook,
I will give 5 extra credit points for every 20 remarks stating your site is
better than some other sites, or really, really good. Maximum of 30 Points Miscellaneous
Reasons
If your site has something that I like, but do not have a
grading for, I will give you extra credit for it. There are two
classes to choose from. The gold class awards are easier to win, thus are mend
for sites that have free hosting, such as tripod, angelfire, bravenet, etc.
Platinum class is for sites that have their own server, their own domain, etc.
